Can I Get The Service? To see if our service is available in your area click on the area links on this page: What Does a Radio Look Like? Our primary radio is a panel model which combines the antenna and the radio all into one unit. Depending upon the line-of-sight considerations, they can be flush mounted right on your home, or mounted upon a metal mount, a metal pole or a metal pole mounted in a tripod. They measure about 15" by 12" and they are not very heavy. If you desire, we will let you paint them to match your home. We do have other types of radios with external antennas available and some installations may require using them but these are our primary service units.
Using wireless technology, Crest Wireless connects you to the Grant County PUD Zipp fiber network so that you can have high-speed Internet access at your home. What Are The Upload and Download Speeds? Upload and download speeds average between 1 Megabits to 3 Megabits per second, depending upon the quality of the radio connection and the traffic on the network.
When compared to a 56k modem connection which averages a couple of Kilobits per second, you can quickly understand why our radio customers
are happy that they switched to wireless.
If you think of your connection like a pipe supplying data to your computer, the telephone connection is a pinkie-sized data pipe and the wireless radio connection is a data pipe big enough for you to crawl through.
Good question. We thought long and hard about the consequences of limiting speeds and the amounts of data you can transfer each month. Limiting speeds and limiting data movement seem to go against the reason to have high-speed Internet. So, our decision was to leave the radio connection wide open to permit you to get the best access that is available. We do not limit the connection speeds, but we do reserve the right to limit the number of users who can have access to a particular access point. This is our way of keeping the quality of our service up high for those who pay for it.Remember the days when many dial-up Internet providers over-sold their modem capacity and you couldn't get on-line? The same thing can be done to a wireless access point. It is important to us to give you the best wireless access available and so we will not oversell the capacity of our access points. How much information can I download and upload using a radio connection? But because we also have to make enough money to continue to operate as an Internet company, we have set a 10 Gigabyte marker on the amount of data you upload or download. 10 Gigabytes and beyond... After you reach the 10 Gigabyte monthly marker, we will begin billing you for the extra data transfer usage above 10 Gigabytes. We charge $1.50 per Gigabyte over 10 Gigabytes per month. Most users will never use 10 Gigabytes per month. The few that do can have all they want, they simply have to pay for it. It works just like a cellular phone plan. It keeps things easier and it permits you to have unlimited access at a great price. ReliabilityGenerally (let's say 98%) of the time, radio works very well and gives great performance. Once in a while we encounter a glitch and have to reboot a radio or come out and check your settings. Degraded PerformanceOne other thing which can affect connection and radio performance is the number of other radios in the area. As more radios are installed it is very important that wireless providers work together to avoid causing problems for all wireless customers in general. InterferenceAs the level of radio "noise" in an area goes up and it may adversely affect overall radio performance. We work at keeping radio interference as low as possible to maximize the quality of area radio connections for all Internet users. Email Service?Yes, we include local email service with our wireless accounts. What does it cost?We have a couple of different options for you. Click here to see them: Prices |
